UPDATE:

Cedar Rapids Animal Care and Control says that a large snake that was caught on Monday is illegal to own in the state of Iowa. According to comments on the original Facebook post, the snake has been identified as a Reticulated Python, which, according to Iowa Code, is illegal to own in Iowa. Animal Control says it will continue to hold the snake for an owner who is legally permitted to have the snake. Otherwise, they are working with several licensed rescue zoos to find the snake a new home.

ORIGINAL STORY:

Animal control officers know that some calls are going to be stranger than others. A Cedar Rapids animal control officer got an interesting wake-up call on a Monday morning when she had to wrangle a giant snake!

Where Was the Giant Snake Found?

According to the Cedar Rapids Animal Care and Control Facebook page, the huge snake was found slithering in someone's yard on Monday morning. The lucky responding official? Animal Control Officer Timm at your service! Before she could even enjoy her morning coffee, Officer Timm responded to the call and apprehended the suspect.

According to the Facebook post, the animal control office has named the snake, Sir Hiss-a-lot!  As the post points out, someone woke up today and discovered that their large friend is missing!

What Should You Do if This is YOUR Pet Snake?

Cedar Rapids Animal Control is encouraging residents to check their pet snakes, and if Sir Hiss a Lot is yours, you can call 319-286-5993 and answer a few questions to help prove ownership of the snake.

I'm not sure I'd be able to keep cool like Officer Timm clearly did. Much like Indiana Jones, I don't like snakes. Here's hoping that Sir Hiss a Lot finds his owner soon!
