Going to Adventureland during the summer is a tradition that people across Iowa, the Midwest, and even the country have had for many years. People make a weekend out of it which means getting a hotel near the theme park and waterpark.

After temporarily closing its doors back in November of 2024, the famous Adventureland Inn hotel has closed its doors to the public permanently. It's not all bad news though. The reason for the closure is to give people hope that the theme park and waterpark have some exciting stuff coming its way in the future.

Adventureland Inn Closes Permanently

Adventureland, the family-owned theme park and waterpark (Adventure Bay) in Altoona, announced on its website that the hotel bearing the same name had closed its doors after 50 years.

The announcement reads,

"At Adventureland, we have continued to provide the best guest experience for our visitors through the addition of new events, new rides and attractions, and on-going park-wide improvements. With our continued focus on guest experience, we have made the decision to close the Adventureland Inn and convert the property into on-site employee housing as we grow our workforce."

Attached to Adventureland Inn is Spectators Sports Bar & Grill which will remain open seven days a week.

According to WHO, Jack Krantz opened the hotel in 1973, just one year before the theme park opened its doors. Back in 2002, Adventureland Inn went under a million-dollar project that increased the size of the hotel by double, adding water features and new pools for guests.

In late 2024, Adventureland Inn closed during the off-season. That began in November.
