With the lenten season here, Chicago on Lake Michigan, and the Mississippi River on the western border of Illinois, there is no shortage of delicious fish in Illinois.

That's why it is so surprising that only one, yes one restaurant in all of Illinois made it onto the list of where to find the best fish and chips in America. Sure, fish and chips are "technically" a British thing, but no one does fried food like Americans and for sure those in the Midwest like Illinois.

But if there is only one restaurant in Illinois that made the list of plaes with the best fish and chips, it only makes sense that the most diverse culinary city in Illinois would have that restaurant. Of course, this place is heavily influenced by England but not new England, old England.

So, what restaurant has the best Fish & Chips? The place Food Republic put on its list is only a couple of hours away. That's not too far to take a short trip to sit down, get a pint, and order some of the best fish and chips in Illinois and America.

One Illinois Restaurant Named Best Fish & Chips in the United States

Located at 1000 W. Armitage Ave. in the Lincoln Park neighborhood in Chicago, Armitage Alehouse is serving up top-knotch Fish & Chips. While situated wonderfully on Lake Michigan, the English think that because Chicago is so far away from an ocean that a restaurant in middle-America can't do that they do.

This is what Food Republic said about Armitage and their tasty British pub classic,

"Embracing its continental locale 800 miles from the nearest ocean, Armitage Alehouse in the Lincoln Park neighborhood of Chicago invites you to experience early 20th century English pub culture with offerings inspired by Indian cuisine, fine French wines, and bold imported ales. All that, plus a delicious take on fish and chips.

Delicate and crisply-battered white pike fish and chips tip the scales toward the pricier side for this humble dish, but come with a tarragon-forward tartar sauce that you won't find at your average chip shop. One 5-star Google review claimed, "[The] fish and chips that they serve is one of the best that I ever ate ... crunchy and well made." With fans applauding the dark wood, brassy lived-in decor, and warm service, another person noted that there was "just enough breading to not take away from the melt in your mouth fish." Advance dinner reservations suggested. Brunch on Saturday and Sunday."

I don't know about you, but I'm ready to take a trip to Chicago on a Friday during Lent.
