Illinois Is In The Top 10 States For Singles

Ahead of Valentine's Day, WalletHub has released its list of 2023's Best & Worst States for Singles. If you're a single person in the Quad Cities, the good news is if you want to find other singles you'll need to stay where you are on the Illinois side or cross one of the five bridges to get to Illinois from the Iowa side to find more singles just like you. Why do I say that? Because Illinois is in the top 10 best states for single people.

In order to determine the best and worst states for single people, WalletHub compared the 50 states across three key dimensions:

Dating Economics
Dating Opportunities
Romance & Fun

WalletHub evaluated those dimensions using 30 relevant metrics. Each metric was graded on a 100-point scale, with 100 representing the most favorable conditions for singles who are actively dating.

After determining each state’s weighted average across all metrics, WalletHub calculated each state's overall score to rank them from best to worst. Here is what they found.

WalletHub found that Illinois is in 2023's top 10 best states for singles. Illinois ranked at #6 on the list. Here is how Illinois ranked in the three key dimensions:

Dating Economics - 6th
Dating Opportunities - 37th
Romance & Fun - 6th

Illinois also ranked 5th in Median Annual Household Income and Restaurants per Capita.

Iowa on the other hand was on the opposite of this list. Iowa is the 34th-best state for singles or the 16th-worst state for singles. Here is how Iowa ranked in the three key dimensions:

Dating Economics - 37th
Dating Opportunities - 4th
Romance & Fun - 37th

Iowa also ranked 47th in Mobile-Dating Opportunities and 4th in Movie Theaters per Capita.

California was named the best state for singles in 2023 and West Virginia came in dead last.
