A South Brunswick man was arrested early Tuesday morning after allegedly setting fire to his girlfriend’s parents’ home following a domestic dispute, according to police.

The incident occurred shortly before 3 a.m. at a residence on Old Beekman Road. Officers were dispatched after a resident called 911, requesting the removal of Leonard Jones IV, 50, of South Brunswick, who had been involved in an argument with his girlfriend, the South Brunswick Police Department stated.

While officers were en route, a second 911 call was made, reporting that the house was on fire. Upon arrival, the first officer on the scene observed flames emerging from the roof of the home, authorities said.

Three people inside the house, along with Jones, were able to evacuate safely, according to officials.

Did They Catch The Guy?

An investigation led by South Brunswick Police Officer Nicole Clark, Detective Rick Delucia, and Deputy Fire Marshal Eric Murnieks resulted in the arrest of Jones at the scene. He has been charged with aggravated arson and domestic violence and was transported to the Middlesex County Jail pending his initial court appearance, police said.

Firefighters from South Brunswick's three fire companies, along with crews from surrounding towns, responded to the blaze and were able to bring the fire under control.
