If you told me Illinois might be one of the worst states for doomscrolling, I'd believe you.  I'm probably one of the most social media-obsessed people I know and I'm not afraid to admit it.

When I was 15, I went viral on Twitter and gained over 50,000 followers in less than three months.  That is what turned me into the person I am today: a doomscrolling, bed rotter.  If you don't know what any of that means, it's safe to say you're not chronically online like me.  Be thankful.

Nearly 45% of Americans say reducing screen time is their New Year's resolution, which sounds great in theory.  In reality?  We're all still glued to our phones, convincing ourselves we're "just checking one thing."  And in Illinois, especially Chicago, that one thing turns into hours real fast.

Is Illinois One Of the Worst States For Doomscrolling?

Chicago ranks #3 in the country for sport-related social media consumption, with more than 4 billion sports posts viewed every year.  FOUR BILLION.  THAT'S A LOT OF REFRESHING.  REWATCHING HIGHLIGHTS.  YELLING AT YOUR SCREEN.

But here's the thing... Chicago is built for doomscrolling.  Between the Bears, Bulls, Cubs, Sox, Blackhawks, and every college rivalry you can think of, there is always something happening.  Or something going wrong.  You never know.

Alongside Chicago, cities like New York, Los Angeles, Pittsburgh, and Philadelphia rounded out the top 5 cities who do the most doomscrolling.  These all happen to be where sports aren't just entertainment, they're part of our lifestyle.
