CBS News reported that Duenez Jr. was one of four soldiers who died earlier this month (April) during a training exercise in Lithuania.
According to the press release, out of respect and gratitude for Staff Sergeant Duenez's service, the U.S. and Illinois state flags will remain lowered at all buildings occupied by state personnel through sunset on Thursday (April 17).
Honoring a Life of Service
The Illinois Flag Display Act ensures that those who have lost their lives in the line of duty will be honored with dignity and reverence, including members of the armed forces, police, and fire department.
Illinois stands with the Duenez family and all who are mourning his death.
