An early Sunday morning shooting has left one person dead with the suspect in custody after a short standoff.

According to the East Moline Police, at approximately 5:07am, police officers were dispatched to 146 15th Avenue, East Moline, for a report of shots fired.

Upon arrival, officers located an injured subject outside the residence and began medical attention. The subject was transported to Genesis Medical Center Silvis where he was pronounced deceased.

Officers were advised the suspect may have run into the residence of 146 15th Avenue. Officers received a description of the suspect and set up a perimeter. They then attempted to call the suspect out of the residence with no success.

At approximately 9:30am the suspect was seen fleeing the area on foot by officers and was taken into custody without incident in the 100 block of 16th Avenue in the south alley.

The suspect was identified as Zaccheus N Hayes (12/09/98) Hayes was taken to the East Moline Police Department to be interviewed by detectives. Hayes was transported to the Rock Island County jail on First Degree Murder charges. No bond has been set at this time. Hayes will have a first appearance on Monday 03/27/23 at 1:00pm.  All suspects are innocent until proven guilty.

The victim’s name will be released at a later date by the Rock Island County Coroner Brian Gustafson.
