For The Two Terrible Iowa Drivers Who Need To Settle Down
Drivers in the morning are the worst. The absolute worst.
Midday drivers can be slow and annoying at times. Afternoon can have issues, but for the most part, people are done with work and are fine. Even night drivers in their supercharged cars revving up the Brady Street hill are better than morning drivers.
Morning, especially early morning, drivers are aggressive, tired, and rude. Maybe some people should wake up 5 minutes earlier so they don't have to be d's to start the day.
But of course, that is not the case, so here is the saga of two d's during my drive around 7:20 on Wednesday, June 18th.
The First Aggressive Moron On I-74
Our adventure begins on I-74 heading south. I was in the right lane behind a semi that was going a bit over 55 mph (which is the speed limit for those who don't know).
There was no need for me to try and pass him before getting to my exit on River Drive. While coming up to the exit below, I could see another driver following way too close behind me. Not shocking.
Just before coming to the point of the road below, I turned on my blinker to indicate that I was going to move into the exit lane when I reached the appropriate dashed line. HOWEVER, the person behind me needed to get 5 seconds ahead of me and ignored the solid white line and zipped over to the exit lane to pass me.
As she passed me, I gave her the look...but she didn't look back. I was invisible to her, and her need to get to the stoplight at the bottom of the ramp 5 seconds faster.
But Wait...There's More!
Driver number one rushes down the ramp and turns right. I also come down the ramp, getting ready to turn right.
As you can see below, the right lane is for turning right. The left lane is for turning left and going straight. Seems pretty simple...however...
As I am coming to a stop to turn right, a DIFFERENT DRIVER pulls up next to me in the left lane. And they pull up really far into the intersection. I'm thinking they are just bad drivers who just didn't stop at the stop line.
Nope! They decided they needed to get 5 seconds ahead of me as well, so they used that lane to turn right.
I'll say it again, wake up 5 minutes earlier and be a civilized human driving to work!
This did convince me of one thing...to get a car dashboard camera. Partially for safety, but mostly so when these idiots don't wake up 5 minutes early and can't follow the simple rules of the road, I can share the video with you.
