Traffic flow on 53rd might get a bit of relief starting tomorrow.

According to the city of Davenport, the intersection of 53rd & Eastern Ave. is set to reopen tomorrow. You'll remember this is the part of the road that has so far been consolidated from multi-lane into one each way, with the flashing red lights indicating the four-way stop rules. Its opening is set pending weather conditions but it's not clear if that involves the heat advisory.

This work is part of the second phase of the city's work on reconstructing East 53rd Street. This phase includes working on the road between Lorton Ave. and Elmore Circle, and that part is expected to be done this fall. Meanwhile, that means that area will still be one lane until then.

53rd is set to see several new businesses pop up around Elmore this fall (in the near vicinity of Chick-Fil-A), including a car wash and a drive-thru Hawaiian grill.

Phase II of 53rd is far from over, unfortunately. They're working on the road in segments and the city isn't expecting to be done with it until fall 2023. Next up will be reconstructing 53rd from Eastern Ave. to Jersey Ridge and also Jersey Ridge to Lorton Ave.

Lane Closures on West Locust

Another traffic thing to let you know about will begin on June 22. West Locust will be reduced to one lane between Michigan and Clark for resurfacing. That project is expected to be done by the end of July.
