It feels so good to think about going to live music events again in the Quad Cities. This live music event is one of my favorites. The Mississippi Valley Blues Society announced this week that plans are in the works for a 2021 Blues Fest in Davenport, Iowa. The fest will be held in Davenport's LeClaire Park on the river, Sept. 17 and 18. It will be the the 35th anniversary for the festival.

It's been awhile since the fest was held in LeClaire Park. In 2019, flood waters moved the event to Murphy Park at The Bend development in East Moline. We had a great time and the event was well attended, but it's just not the same when Blues Fest doesn't happen in LeClaire Park. According to the QC Times, it was the sixth time that flooding affected the event. To get early notification of the musical lineup, subscribe to the MVBS website. While you're there sign up to become a member and support the blues and our Quad City chapter. They're the whole reason we get to see such talented acts coming to the Quad Cities. Find your MVBS t-shirts and swag there too. Like many local music organizations and non-profits, the MVBS wasn't able to offer live music events or educational clinics during the pandemic. They used that down time to create a really cool website. Society members worked with a local production company and converted outdated videos into a digital format.

The QC Times reports that the also produced an pretty extensive video vault of previously unreleased footage of Blues Festival performers, workshops and performances at local venues. Until it's September, get your blues fix at the MVBS website. Here's Albert Collins from 1993 in Davenport.
