Casey’s and Lowe’s Announce Plans to Hire in Iowa
The Des Moines Register reports that Casey's announced last Friday that they plan on adding 5,000 employees in the 16 states where they have store locations. Lowe's also announced plans to increase hiring as Iowans start to do spring planting and gardening. Lowe's plans to hire around 130 people in the Des Moines and Ames area.
Casey's stated in a news release that they will hold open interviews from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on May 13th at it's 2300 stores. This will not only be for retail positions but also for workers and drivers at their distribution center at their Ankeny headquarters. Applications can also be sent to caseys.com/careers or by texting TEAM to 227397.
The Register reports that Lowe's local hiring day will be on May 4th from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at their two West Des Moines locations. Open positions include cashiers, stockers, drivers, receivers, and supervisors. Both full and part-time positions will be available. Job seekers must be 18 years of age or older.
With consumer spending headed up, the Register reports that the national gross domestic product grew 6.4% in the first quarter of 2021, the commerce department reported last week. At the same time, the job market is starting to show signs of recovery too. Iowa's unemployment rate for the month of March was 3.7%, tied for the 7th lowest in the nation. Many employees, especially restaurants are having problems finding employees.
With people being at home so much during the pandemic, interest in home improvements have skyrocketed. Lowe's stock has nearly doubled this past year, and rival Home Depot is up by more than 50%.
