If you've ever been to a show at Codfish Hollow Barnstormers near Maquoketa you know what a magical experience it is to listen to music there. The music venue has been closed during the pandemic and unless they get some help, they may have to close permanently.

Last month, a GoFundMe page was created to update the community about the family-owned and volunteer-staffed venue’s situation and plans, and ask for its support.

Here's a quote from an April 27th post.

"We didn't want to have to do this, but it looks like we have to. We know times are tough out there. We hope you are hanging in there, as best you can. We miss you and hope to see you all out at the barn as soon as it is safe for us all to meet together again under the rafters and the stars."

Venue owners want to open back up as soon as they're safely able but say without extra help they may close. The venue’s sources of revenue are alcohol, merchandise and ticket sales.

Because the barn is closed, it is asking for donations through its GoFundMe page; remember those donations are tax deductible. You can also purchase merchandise or gift cards through its online shop, at bit.ly/3ctuAfl, or donate ticket costs for canceled events back to the barn to help the venue.

Here's some good news. As of May 7, the venue posted their gratitude for donations so far.

Selfishly, I want this venue to survive. I've seen some fantastic shows, met great people and the whole experience of 'the barn' is amazing. Let's do what we can to keep live, local music venues flourishing.
