A new kind of baseball is coming to Iowa, and it’s bringing a bright twist to the traditional ballgame. Cosmic Baseball, an alternative league known for its glowing fields and high-energy atmosphere, will debut at Principal Park on July 18, 2026.

Baseball Under the Blacklights

The Iowa Cubs announced that two Cosmic Baseball teams, The Cosmic Chili Peppers and The Glow Mojis, will face off in a one-of-a-kind night game that turns from daylight to a full blacklight experience. Once the sun sets, players take the field with glow-in-the-dark uniforms, bats, baseballs, and bases — all illuminated under ultraviolet lights.

Unlike standard baseball, Cosmic Baseball features a faster pace with no bunting or mound visits. Every inning ends with a home run derby, and a live DJ keeps the energy up throughout the game.

Inspired by the Savannah Bananas’ Entertainment Style

The league follows a fan-first model similar to the Savannah Bananas, featuring rosters of former professional players from minor leagues and international teams. After its debut season in 2024, Cosmic Baseball sold out its entire 2025 tour and now boasts a massive waitlist between 300,000 and 400,000 fans, according to NBC.

How to Get Tickets

Tickets for the 2026 tour, including the Des Moines stop, will be distributed through a lottery system. Fans can register at chilipeppersbaseball.com/cosmic-lottery.

Prices for 2026 haven’t been announced, but in 2025, general admission tickets sold for around $35, according to Minor League Baseball.

This will mark the first time Iowa fans can experience baseball like they’ve never seen — glowing, fast-paced, and fueled by music.
