GoFundMe Page Helps Feed Forgotten Strike Workers

A Quad City woman has started a GoFundMe page for striking workers who aren't getting much attention.

Angel Richmond has been busy supporting her family since Deere workers went on strike Thursday morning. According to our news partners at Local 4 News, Angel says it's important to support and stand with other UAW members, but she says support isn't shown as much for workers who picket during the overnight shift.

Many individuals and businesses that come out, come during the day. We appreciate this so much, but would like to spread the love to others during the night. The sun goes down we keep going 7 days a week rain, moon, shine, and yes snow too!! We have a plan to make breakfast burritos for about 200-250 strikers every night for 7 days as the rotations change each night and we want to try to spread it to everyone. We want to know if you know a business or if you yourself may want to sponsor one day or be able to donate certain items for little or no cost. We also have a gofund me page if they would like to donate cash to help cover costs

So Angel decided to start a GoFundMe page to help cover costs to cook and feed the overnight workers. She's asking businesses and anyone she can to contribute so she can keep feeding more than 200 workers each night. Here's a sample grocery list:

50lbs of sausage

50lbs of shredded cheese

35 peppers or 18 bags of frozen cut peppers

35 onions or 18 bags of frozen cut onions

7 flats (21 dozen) eggs

44 packages of 6 large burrito size tortillas

Hot sauce (packets preferably)

Aluminum foil to wrap them

Gallon baggies

Olive oil (about 1/3 gallon)

LP tanks filled can swap for empties I have but will take at least 2- 1/2 tanks a night we have multiple griddles going.

Here's the list for a week's worth of food:

350 lbs of lbs of sausage

350lbs of shredded cheese

245 peppers or 126 bags of frozen cut peppers

245 onions or 126 bags of frozen cut onions

49 flats (84 dozen) eggs

308 packages of 6 large burrito size tortillas

Hot sauce (packets preferably)

Aluminum foil to wrap them

Gallon baggies x2

Olive oil (about 2 gallon)

LP tanks filled can swap for empties I have but will take at least 7-8 for the week.

In the event that donations exceed the cost of food and supplies, the funds will go to other Quad City charities like QC Paws, UAW local 865 Woman's Group, UAW local 865 Veterans Group. According to her Facebook page, Angel says donations and support are starting to stream in. As I'm writing this, she has raised $775 out of $5000 since she started the page.
