There's only a few more days left of September and soon we'll be noticing the colors of fall foliage. Over the next few weeks take a short trip to these beautiful overlooks in Iowa to see a birds eye view of Iowa scenery.

1. Pikes Peak State Park offers one of the best overlooks in the entire state. You'll see gorgeous panoramic views of the Mississippi River Valley on a clear fall day. Also, go for the dozens of hummingbirds who gather at the feeders. I've seen close to 60 buzzing in about a 12 foot radius.

2. The Mines of Spain Recreation Area was created to commemorate the spot where Julien Dubuque first settled in Iowa. You'll find a beautiful view of the first city in Iowa from the overlook.

3. Eagle Point Park offers another scenic view of Dubuque, with less of an urban feel than the view from Mines of Spain. This gorgeous overlook is one of the nicest places in Iowa to have a picnic or cider and donuts.

4. Effigy Mounds National Monument is where you'll find more than 200 prehistoric mounds built by Native Americans. Many effigy mounds are shaped like animals, including bears and birds and were built mostly in the first millennium, by people of the Woodland Culture.

Grab your cameras, phones, a picnic lunch and some walking shoes and stop by some of these beautiful Iowa parks. You'll be glad you did.
