Illinois Is One Of The Most Haunted States In America
The spooky season is almost over, but we still have time to see which states are the most haunted. After all, ghosts are scary all the time, not just in October.
Today we will be looking at a list put together by Forbes for the most haunted states.
How They Get The Number
Forbes decided to put the numbers together and see if they could find the most haunted states. It looks like they used shows like 'Ghost Adventures' and stats from sites like this one to see which states got the most ghost hunter visitors.
Compiled using findings from Ghosts of America
Places like California rank high with 6,444 reports since 2005. A very unique and cool way to get these stats.
Other Haunted States
- Texa: This tumbleweed town has a reputation for its cool art scene and the mysterious Marfa Lights. People started spotting these unexplained colorful glowing orbs back in the 19th century.
- California: Especially at places like Eureka’s Fort Humboldt State Historic Park. Here, hikers report seeing the ghost of a dead commander staring at them through the hospital windows.
- Ohio: (this one is extra funny if you spend a lot of time online because everyone always says "ONLY IN OHIO") Third on the list, Ohio is rife with paranormal stories, from the Twin City Opera House in the tiny town of McConnelsville—where something hides behind the curtains—to Mansfield’s Ohio State Reformatory, which hosts regular ghost hunts and was the setting for the Shawshank Redemption.
- Michigan: From Detroit’s Michigan Central Station (a truly haunted building that hosts an annual spooktacular event) to a number of haunted lighthouses, Michigan has its share of creepy tales, earning it a high spot on the list.
Illinois Is The 5th Most Haunted State
The site goes on to say,
There’s been plenty of strange and unexplained phenomena in the Prairie State, which is why Illinois ranked fifth on the list.
Many hotels are cited as being very haunted in Illinois. Hotels like Congress Plaza Hotel. Another haunted spot I did not know about was a cemetery. There is actually a road map to visit haunted spots here.
From Bloods Point Cemetery near Rockford to the haunted Cahokia Mounds way south of Springfield.
