A former Quad City resident appeared on CBS's long-running game show, "The Price is Right" which aired on October 5th, 2022.

Listen to our talk with Karen from this morning:

At first glance, there is no way to tell where this woman named Karen is from, but when looking closely at her t-shirt, it reads, "The Quad Cities, Where Iowa and Illinois Spoon."

Karen, a graduate of Moline HS and Augustana College, was chosen as one of the first contestants at the start of the show. She made it to the stage in the second round where she guessed the EXACT retail price of a designer Swiss watch, which was $1,200.

"1200 my lucky number 12," Karen said. This exact guess got her an extra $500 in the game.

Her excitement led her to do a cartwheel on stage.

Karen then got the opportunity to participate in a game of Plinko, where she had a chance to win up to $50,000!

She received one Plinko chip to start with, but she had to guess the start/end number of 4 retail objects.

  1. Rose quartz face roll - She guessed the price wrong
  2. Tomato sauce maker - She guessed the price correctly -  Winning the 2nd chip
  3. Electric corkscrew -She guessed the price correctly - Winning the 3rd chip
  4. Waterproof binoculars -She guessed the price wrong

In total, she obtained three Plinko Chips to play.

The first Plinko chip she dropped won her the biggest prize on the board, $10,000.

Karen appeared on stage 3 times during the show. The second time she was able to take a spin at the wheel.

The wheel contains 20 sections showing values from 5¢ to $1.00, in increments of five cents. Contestants are allowed a maximum of two spins. The first contestant spins the wheel and may choose to stop with his or her score or spin again, adding the value of the second spin to their first. The goals is to get as close to 1 dollar as possible.

Karen's first spin lands on 10 cents, she spins again and lands on 90 cents. This exact matching won her $1,000.

Host of the Price Is Right, Drew Carey, gave Karen a bonus spin.

"If you land on the 5 or 15 we will give you 10 thousand dollars and if you land on the dollar we will give you 25 thousand... just for funsies," Carey said.

Unfortunately, Karen's spin "for funsies" did not land on any of the numbers, but she did get to go to the showcase round.

Toward the end of the game show, Karen is welcomed back on stage for the showcase round.

She had the chance to win a hot tub, a vacation in SO-CAL wine country, and a brand-new SUV.

Karen Bids $34,012 on the total price of all the luxuries together. "Lucky number 12," she says again.

Sadly, the lucky number did not get her a win and her competitor beat her in the price guess.

Throughout Karen's whole experience on the game show, she ended up winning over $14,000!

It's nice to see a local Quad Citizen getting a chance to win big on a famous game show.
