Iowa And Illinois Have A Young population, But Who Is The Youngest?

Who would have guessed that cities in both Iowa and Illinois could be some of the youngest in all of the USA?

A team at Coventry Direct wanted to know which cities are populated with younger individuals versus which cities are populated with older individuals. They decided to have this study take a look at Census data across the U.S.

Both Iowa and Illinois made it onto the list, but who did better?

Two Iowa cities made it in the top 20, and one made it into the top 5 while only one of Illinois's cities made it onto this list. That city made it in at number 20.

Turns out Ames, IA was ranked at number 4 on the list of cities containing the youngest people. Iowa City ranked number 18 with a few other cities from the Us. Champaign, IL, and a few other cities ranked 20th. You can see that here.

Looks like college towns really help these rankings!

The top five youngest cities were as follow:

1. Provo, UT

2. Logan, UT

3. Manhattan, KS

4. Ames, IA

5. Jacksonville, NC

The list shows that many Midwestern and Southern cities were home to many young residents, but the South is also home to some of the oldest cities as well.

The Top five oldest list is as follows:

1. The villages, FL

2. Punta Gorda, FL

3. Homosassa, FL

4. Vero Beach, FL

5. Prescott, AZ

Yep, you read that right!  Florida found itself in that to 5 a majority of the time. The result from this test was that 11 Florida cities made the top 20 list, including four among the five cities with the oldest residents. So, the Florida stereotype seems to be true after all.

Another popular trend among the oldest cities in America was their proximity to the beach.

Youngest & Oldest Ages

What is the youngest city's age? With the youngest city in America being Provo, Utah, that means the age is 25 years. The American city with the oldest median age was The Villages, Florida, where we see an age of 67.5 years.

According to the data we saw in the Census, it looks as though young people are moving inland, while older people are moving out to the water.
