A few months ago Wake Brewing put up their ad on a sign just around the corner from Front Street Pub & Eatery, and a few blocks from the Front Street Brewery & Taproom. They teamed up with Lopiez Pizza for a dual-billboard promoting their brands and they really turned out great. The ad, which is positioned right before the Government Bridge, says "Choose Your Path" and shows an arrow pointing towards Illinois.

About the same time, Brandon Mavis was hired on as the Marketing Director at Front Street and noticed this new billboard from Wake brewing on his drive to work every day. Knowing Jason and Justen and others on the Wake team, he thought it would be hilarious if Front Street put up an ad on the Illinois side, as close to Wake as possible. Doing some internet research he found out that there were two billboards next to the new parking lot that Wake had just put in.

Brandon From Front Street

"My first thought was if Wake is telling people to go drink beer in Rock Island, I am going to tell people to come drink beer in Davenport! I ran this by a few others at Front Street and they thought it would be hilarious as well like we were feuding breweries via a billboard war! I commented on a post Wake shared on Facebook that a Front Street ad would make their new parking lot look even better, and they said to make it happen, so we did. After contacting the company that owns the signs to check the availability and cost, we went ahead and scheduled one of them to run for four weeks.

We hope that others get a quick laugh out of it, and appreciate the humor as we do. While our breweries are competitors in the local market, we're also industry professionals and friends that have known each other for many years. We support each other by visiting the other taprooms and enjoying their beers as often as we can. It's all good-natured fun and I hope people can laugh at it and see the humor."

Wake Brewing

We reached out to Wake but have not heard back from them.  We assume they are running vinyl backward to hear some more inspiration for their next brew.
