Iowa loves Amazon. In this instance, I'm not talking about purchases citizens from the state make on the online website, but instead those selling products.

According to Business Wire, Amazon has released the states that have the greatest number of businesses, small and medium, per capita. Iowa tops that list with almost 10,000 sellers.

Iowa is also the fast-growing state for small and medium-sized businesses (SMB) selling on Amazon.

The number of Iowa businesses selling on Amazon is even more impressive when you consider only 26 states have more than 5,000 businesses selling on the site. Iowa is 31st in the nation in population, according to World Population Review.

Keri Cusick, the head of small business empowerment for Amazon, told Business Wire:

Iowa is home to thousands of small and medium-sized businesses selling in Amazon’s stores, and we’re working hard to support their growth despite the global pandemic.

Over 12 Fairfield, Iowa businesses sell on Amazon. One of those is Tahmi DeSchepper:

My handmade jewelry business has been booming since joining Amazon. Amazon helped me double my sales last year, and I'm expecting another 50 to 75 percent increase in sales this year, despite the pandemic.

"Pet Parents," based in Ankeny, has had similar success. CEO Blake Anderson told Business Wire:

We’ve reached more customers than we ever could have on our own and have continued to grow more than 90 percent year-over-year. Thanks to our growth with Amazon, we now have 15 local employees in Ankeny, just moved into a 7,000 square foot office and warehouse, and are in the process of expanding further.

Over 15,000 small and medium-sized businesses in the United States had over $1 million in sales on Amazon last year. Another 25,000 more had sales of at least $500,000.
