I was born in New York to two native New Yorkers. They were proud of where they came from and had so many fond memories of NYC. My Dad grew up in the Bronx and my mother lived in Manhattan for a time.

So yes...she was an uptown girl and she won't let you forget it.

While they themselves grew up in the city, they wanted something different for me. If I had to stay, they were wrestling with the idea of putting me in a private school due to some of the issues in the district at that time.

Due to this and some safety concerns at the time, they decided to make the move to Pennsylvania where I lived from the age of 3 all the way until college.

There are so many different things to consider when trying to find the most ideal place to raise a child. Do you want to live in the country or do you want to live in the city?

An online publisher put together a list of the best states to have a family in, and the Hawkeye State made the cut!

This top ten list was determined by several different factors such as;
cost of living,  crime rates, child care, health, and broadband infrastructure.

Also, health and safety factors carry into it as well. Here is the list of the top bet states to raise a family in.

  1. Vermont
  2. Maine
  3. New Hampshire
  4. Nebraska
  5. Iowa
  6. Connecticut
  7. Wyoming
  8. Massachusetts
  9. Idaho
  10. North Dakota

The reason Iowa made this list was due to it being the 5th best state for high incomes compared to their cost of living. Iowans know that most of the state is (mostly) a great and safe place to live the small town life.

So, if you plan to start a family soon, it might just be time to start appreciating some of those wide open spaces.

One restaurant in New York City has an interesting connection to one Iowa celebrity. This spot was a filming location for an Iowa adjacent actress.
