Just over a year ago I saw a random peacock in Iowa. I never knew why until now. The reason is so random, weird, and left me with more questions.

As I was going for a run last year, I heard a loud scream. It was something I had never heard before, I frantically looked around to see a peacock just walking along a cornfield. It was just casually screaming. I asked around and none of the people I asked knew why it was there.

I also looked to see if that kind of scream was normal... It is.

Peacock Laws

I also learned that these guys are a protected species in Iowa. According to the DNR,

All birds in Iowa are protected except for game birds in season, European starlings, and house sparrows. Minus the exceptions, it is illegal to collect bird feathers, nests, or eggs, and to kill, collect, or keep any bird without a special permit, such as a one for an educational facility or a wildlife rehabilitation center.

People Also have these birds as pets which appears to be legal. Iowa exotic law states,

BANS possessing, breeding and importing dangerous wild animals except for AZA facilities, wildlife sanctuaries, falconry license, agricultural animals, assistive animals, harvest by hunter or trapper, wildlife rehabilitators, circuses, cities, nonprofit 501(c)3 registered in 2007 for exhibition at a municipal zoo, state fair, research facility, vets other than wild boars, pound, animal shelter, county conservation board, public agency, an animal transported through the state within 96 hours, and state licensed USDA facilities. Grandfathers animals registered by 12/31/07 and microchipped by 9/1/07. Owners are also required to maintain health and ownership records, keep the dangerous animal in a primary enclosure except when visiting a vet or transferring to a sanctuary, put up a sign that a dangerous wild animal lives there, and maintain $100,000 of liability insurance with no more than a $250 deductible.

So Why Did I See The Bird?!

Yesterday my mom gave me a call to say,

"Hey, you know that peacock? They took it away."

I was so confused, they just took it away? From who, why?! Apparently, this bird was one of my parent's neighbors' pets. They live out in the country so that makes sense, but he just decided to buy one, on a random day. The next thing you know it's walking around screaming.

It also apparently got taken, by who? I have no idea. Iowa officials? Random hooligans? NO IDEA. So if you know someone who has randomly;y acquired a peacock recently, they may have stolen it...

Iowa Cat Crystals

Crystal Cats Cleansing is all about helping the cats of Iowa. They found a way to do that, and be able to start a business with something they love. You can see some of the crystals they have right now.

More information about adopting a cat or buying crystals can be found here.

Ghosts Of The Station

Today we will be looking at three ghost sightings, and the spots they were seen at.

These three "Ghosts" could all be the same one or three different ones. Though I still think the Music video ghost is by far the creepiest. As far as we know that was the only figure we ever caught on film, and not just in a picture.
