Two Hawkeyes Anxiously Await The Strangest Draft in NFL History
I've never really looked forward to the NFL Draft. Ok, I said it. But in this weird world we live in, sports pretty much doesn't exist anymore. I've watched old games from the past, and it's not cutting it. The top-rated sports show on TV is a documentary about a Chicago Bulls team from 22 years ago. So this year the one spring sports tradition that's still happening tonight and this weekend is.....The NFL Draft. And I'm all IN.
It's the first time I will have ever watched, and I get there won't be a huge crowd watching live. The players won't be there in person and this NFL Draft will all be done over the phone and online. I think that will be a first for sure.
The first round of the draft is tonight and can be seen on ESPN, ABC, and the NFL Network. It should be interesting to see teams navigate their way through technology and make trades and picks. So I guess they did a test run of the draft with all the NFL teams and it apparently aside from a few hiccups, went well, so here's hoping.
I love the Hawkeyes, but until now I've always been that fan who only really gets excited about the season, the week before the first game. Until now. I'm doing my Hawkeye homework.
Tonight's first-round could feature two more Iowa Hawkeyes hearing their name called. Offensive lineman Tristan Wirfs is projected to be at least a top 10 pick tonight. He could go even higher. The name that is still up in the air is defensive lineman A.J. Epenesa. Once a certain mid-first-round pick, A.J. is still being dogged by his less than stellar NFL Combine. Most mock drafts still have him going late in the first round. I think someone is going to get a bargain if he falls that far. I'm excited to see what happens.
Tonight's NFL Draft begins at 7 p.m. Iowa time.
