We knew that parts of Missouri would be impacted by heavy rain overnight, but very few were prepared for something like this. Multiple sources have confirmed that the Elsberry, Missouri area were drenched by nearly 10 inches of rain overnight.

I saw reports from residents that there was intense flooding in the Elsberry, Missouri area and can now confirm numbers and some details. First, the USGS map shows over 9 inches of rain just north of Elsberry.

According to First Alert 4, a state of emergency was declared in Lincoln County, Missouri overnight. KSDK News from St. Louis shared raw video of how Elsberry has been overrun by flood waters. They reported that 42 people had to be rescued and 18 residents were evacuated from their homes.

The Eyewall also shared a map showing that one small area north of Elsberry recorded MORE than 10 inches of rain.

According to the National Weather Service in St. Louis, the rainfall for Elsberry isn't over yet. Their forecast as of the date of this writing calls for more thunderstorm chances again today, tonight and some days this coming week. Let's hope the residents there can recover quickly and not have to endure another catastrophic flooding event like what happened Saturday night into Sunday morning.
