Illinois Officers Rescue Swans Stuck in Traffic Jam

I've heard it said that no good deed goes unpunished. That saying likely applies to how police officers in Illinois feel after they came to the rescue of swans who had gone rogue and were creating a traffic problem this week.

Yes, and the city of Highland Park, Illinois police force can attest to the swan presence there. This is the comical scene that played out Monday, August 11, 2025 along Route 41 there.

Is it legal to have swans in Illinois?

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources says that "it is legal to keep mute swans, but with certain restrictions". By the reaction of the police force, they don't have a problem with these Illinois swan owners, but likely gave them a talking to about how to keep these exotic birds from traffic.
