Scorpions are a decent pet, says Petco, if it's a docile, less aggressive scorpion.  You know, one of these hipster scorpions you can just hang out with and watch the game.

That's all well and good. The docile hipster scorpion has a place in society.  The place a scorpion might not belong is in your engine.  I'm not a mechanic, which I think you're aware of.  I can barely write, much less be a mechanic, but I think less scorpion in your engine and, BINGO, better gas mileage, but I digress.

Why is My Ford Being Recalled?

Why all the talk about scorpions in engines? Ford has had a bit of a recall on their 2020-2022 Super Duty trucks. It's all the Fs: 250, 350, 450, 550, 600. 650 and 750. The issue is with the 6.7-liter Scorpion diesel engine.  Ford says in a report to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that biodiesel deposits can form on the fuel pump's drivetrain components and lead to the failure of the high-pressure fuel pump.

Ford says if that were to happen, it can cause significant engine damage, potentially leading to a breakdown or more serious issues.

How Did This Happen?

Ford has the answer to that very question, and they've traced it back to the pandemic.  The diesel fuel sat in some vehicles long enough that it led to these harmful deposits.

What is the Fix?

According to The Ford recall, impacted vehicles with receive a software update for the powertrain control module (PCM) at no charge to the owner. The update is designed to keep that issue from ever occurring again.

You will be notified by mail by Ford, they say, starting January 13, 2025.  You may call the Ford customer service line at any time to find out if your vehicle is impacted at (866-436-7332)
