Iowa’s Most Beautiful Restaurant is Inside a Historic Hotel [PHOTOS]
When it comes to beautiful restaurants, there's one in Iowa that's step above all the others. According to Love Food, that restaurant is Proudfoot & Bird.
The website Love Food recently published a list of the 39 most beautiful restaurants in America, and unfortunately, there wasn't a single Iowa restaurant on the list. In fact, only five of the 39 restaurants are located in the Midwest! Luckily, the site also put together a list of the most beautiful restaurants in all 50 states.
Proudfoot & Bird is located inside Hotel Fort Des Moines, which got its start in 1918 as the most expensive hotel in Iowa. According to the hotel's website, it cost $1.5 million to build the 11-story building, and it has brought in some very famous guests over the years. That includes Helen Keller, Charles Lindbergh, Katharine Hepburn, Elizabeth Taylor, and at least 13 U.S. presidents!
Proudfoot & Bird, which is named after the architects who designed Hotel Fort Des Moines, opened its doors to customers in 2021 after the hotel underwent renovations. When you see inside the restaurant, you'll understand why it was named the most beautiful in our state! Love Food's article reads:
"-this restaurant exudes glamour. Adorned with marble staircases, intricate gold ceiling inlays, and a grand circular bar, it’s full of the splendor of yesteryear. The menu is equally classy, with dishes including Maine lobster risotto, and butternut squash ragù."
