Davenport Public Library Reopens On Main After Building Collapse

Downtown businesses near the collapsed building on Main Street are working on moving back in.

Today (June 26th) the Davenport Public Library is reopening it's downtown Davenport branch at 321 North Main. This comes nearly a month after the building at 324 Main Street partially collapsed and recently has been demolished.

Other downtown businesses that were evacuated because of safety precautions after the building collapse are moving back in too. Me & Billy was cleared to move in a couple of weeks ago and they are now back open for business. Allied Barber & Supply, right beside Me & Billy, has returned to the block too after setting up temporarily at Mississippi River Distilling Company on 2nd Street.

How To Help Collapse Victims

Multiple lawsuits are in the works after the building collapse but victims still need help. You can donate to the Quad Cities Disaster Recovery Fund headed up by Quad Cities Community Foundation. You can also donate to the American Red Cross and the Salvation Army. Keep your eyes peeled for local business' fundraisers for any of those organizations, since several of those have popped up.

The Davenport Public Library is reopening with their normal operating hours. The library on Main is open at 9:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m. on Mondays, and 9:00 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday, and they are closed on Sundays.

Though businesses around 324 Main are moving back in and opening up, roads around the space where the building was are still closed. No word yet on when those downtown road closures will be lifted.
