This Is Why You Might See More Police Officers Monitoring QCA Roads

Summer is travel time and if you've seen an increased police presence on roads around the Quad Cities, you're not alone.

QCA law enforcement agencies are teaming up with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (the NHTSA) as part of their "Speeding Slows You Down" campaign. That kicked off on July 10th and will last through July 31st.

According to our friends at KWQC, during that timeframe, officers will be on higher alert for speeders. So even though it's road trip season, don't absolutely fly on the roads.

NHTSA Regional Administrator Susan DeCourcy said in a release:

We are asking our community to please slow down. Our goal is to save lives, and we’re putting all drivers on alert — the posted speed limit is the law. There are no excuses.

I thought I had noticed a slight uptick in the amount of law enforcement cars I've seen around lately and the campaign will have a day of maximum enforcement on July 26th around the Quad Cities. On that day, probably don't go 10 MPH over the speed limit in both Iowa & Illinois.

Of course, the stats from fatal wrecks caused by speeding are terrible. In the release, NHTSA said that in 2021, speeding killed 8,462 people, which is about 1 in 5 highway fatalities.

You shouldn't haul tail anyway, since this is also the time of year that folks are out riding bicycles or walking or running with the pups or the kids. Plus there are so many events going on during the summer, you need to be careful and watch the road.
