Pocket Change Park to Jolly Roger: Growing Up in the Quad Cities in the 90’s

As we dive face-first into the nostalgia pond of the 90s, memories of simpler times flood our minds. Back then, life was about finding joy in the little things, like hanging out with friends, playing outside, or watching a classic VHS movie on a Friday night.

Growing up in the Quad Cities, there was always something to do, regardless of your age. Whether it was biking around the riverfront, or catching a River Bandits game, the options were endless. However, the real fun began when we were old enough to experience the legendary Jolly Roger.

Taking it Back to the 90s

But before we get too ahead of ourselves, let's take a step back and reminisce on some of the pop culture gems of the 90s. Who could forget the iconic TV shows like "Saved by the Bell," "Fresh Prince of Bel-Air," or "Seinfeld"? And what about the music scene, with boy bands like NSYNC and Backstreet Boys, or grunge rockers like Nirvana and Pearl Jam?

Mallard Mania

The Quad City Mallards were a professional ice hockey team based in the Quad Cities area. The team was founded in 1995 and was a member of the Central Hockey League.  When the team won the They won the Colonial Cup playoff championship in 1997, the whole QCA erupted!

Hulk-a-Mania

Wharton Fieldhouse, in Davenport, was a popular venue for the World Wrestling Federation (WWF). Every Sunday as they scrolled the upcoming "tour dates" on the screen I would anxiously away the announcement of Wharton Fieldhouse.  There, fans could get up close and personal with their wrestling idols.
