One man is behind bars after an assault and "sword fight" with another man during an argument.

According to Lieutenant Ryan Taylor with the Traverse City Police Department, officers were called to the Pines around 9pm on Monday for reports of an assault. The Pines is an area near the Grand Traverse Commons that a lot of homeless people set up a camp.

Officers were told the victim, a 27-year-old man, brought food back to the campsite. Lt. Taylor said a 20-year-old man, the suspect, was upset because he didn't like the food.

The food was identified to the Lieutenant as "subpar sushi."

After an argument, the suspect began "swinging a machete or hatchet" at the victim. Lieutenant Taylor said the victim grabbed a shovel and the two engaged in a sort of a "sword fight." At some point in the fight, another unknown person scooped up a pile of feces and threw it at the victim.
