
Shooting Incident In St. Ambrose University Parking Lot—Davenport Man Charged
A Davenport man is facing multiple felony charges after allegedly opening fire in a St. Ambrose University parking lot last Friday. The suspect, identified as 35-year-old Jarod D. Gradert, was apprehended following an investigation into the mid-afternoon gunfire that damaged several vehicles and endangered bystanders.
Details of the Afternoon Shooting
The incident occurred at approximately 2:48 p.m. in a parking lot located in the 2100 block of Gaines Street. According to police affidavits, Gradert allegedly targeted a driver who was present in the lot. In an attempt to evade the gunfire, the driver reversed their vehicle, resulting in a collision with a nearby parked car. Investigators confirmed that three vehicles sustained ballistic damage during the encounter, with total property losses estimated to exceed $10,000.
Search Warrant and Evidence Recovery
Following the shooting, Davenport Police executed a search warrant at Gradert’s residence. During the search, officers recovered several firearms, including the weapon suspected to have been used in the incident, alongside various items of drug paraphernalia. Officials stated that during a subsequent interview, Gradert admitted to discharging the firearm at the victim. The entire confrontation was also recorded by surveillance cameras in the area.
Legal Charges and Upcoming Proceedings
Gradert has been formally charged with first-degree criminal mischief and intimidation with a dangerous weapon, both of which are classified as Class C felonies. Additionally, he faces three misdemeanor charges related to weapons and drug possession. Court records indicate that Gradert has since posted bond. A preliminary hearing to address the charges is scheduled for May 19.
