These Are The Now Active And Denied Traffic Cameras In Iowa

Yesterday, it was announced that only 11 traffic cameras in just five cities across Iowa were approved by the state, meaning the cameras denied will be turned off on Tuesday, according to the Muscatine Journal.

The new law was approved by lawmakers and signed into law by Gov. Kim Reynolds in May, and becomes active today. Only 11 cameras were approved, leaving 128 denied to be a part of the new plan. We've put together a map below so you can see where they are.

Each of the cameras must justify that it is not a revenue stream, but a help to public safety.

Davenport had four cameras approved were the following locations, all other locations that have been active are no longer active:

• Harrison Street at 35th Street
• On Welcome Way at Kimberly Road
• Two on Kimberly Road at Brady Street

In LeClaire, the two cameras along Interstate 80 are no longer active, but the camera on Cody Road that shoots Northbound is active. The southbound camera was not approved.

Cedar Rapids had four cameras approved, while nine others were denied:

• I-380 at Diagonal Drive (Northbound)
• I-380 at J Avenue (Southbound)
• Two cameras at the intersection of Williams Blvd and 16th Avenue SW

One camera was approved for Des Moines, though the location was not given, and the same story for Marshalltown.
