Beloved Walrus Penis Stolen from New Jersey Restaurant
Donkey’s Place in Camden is legendary for cheesesteaks that Anthony Bourdain once called "the best in Philadelphia," despite the restaurant being in New Jersey. However, the local landmark is currently making headlines for a different reason: the theft of a rare curiosity kept behind the bar for decades.
A Unique Conversation Piece
For as long as owner Rob Lucas Jr. can remember, a walrus baculum—a bone found in the penis of the mammal—has been a staple of the bar's decor. Sitting alongside a megalodon tooth, the bone served as a popular mystery for curious diners.
"The bartender handed it out for them to figure out what it was. She went to the back to do something else and then one dude stole it," Lucas said. "We got his picture, but I don’t think he’s from around town."
A Social Media Appeal
The staff took to TikTok on New Year’s Eve to ask for the item's return. The video featured the bartender and a photo of the suspected thief.
"I wasn’t thinking that they would do something like this," the bartender said in the video. "If the person who stole it is watching this, please bring it back. Not the same without it."
No Charges, Just Questions
Despite having the man’s credit card information, Lucas has not contacted the police. He simply wants the artifact back in its rightful place on Haddon Avenue.
"We didn’t want to file a police report or anything like that," Lucas said. "We just want the thing back."
