What To Know About Nahant Marsh's Monarch Migration Party

This Saturday, September 12, Nahant Marsh in Davenport will host their 11th annual Monarch Party. Whether you are a monarch enthusiast, a nature lover, or just looking for a fun way to spend a Saturday morning with the family, there's something for everyone at this free event.

The mission of Nahant Marsh Education Center is to protect, enhance, and restore the Marsh through education, research, and conservation. You will see all this in action at the Monarch Party from 9am-12pm.

You can tag & release monarchs to help scientists track monarch migration by tagging butterflies before they begin their journey to Mexico. If you want to really feel like a scientist, head out to the prairie and trails at Nahant Marsh to search for migrating monarchs. If you catch one, you can bring it in to be tagged and contribute to real scientific research.

While the focus is on monarchs, the party is also for other pollinators and many other six-legged insect friends found at the Marsh and in our area: butterflies, moths, bees, beetles, dragonflies, spiders, and birds. All of these creatures, and countless others, are connected to the plants and habitats around them. That's why Monarch & Friends is about more than just monarchs. It's about celebrating the whole community of creatures that makes a healthy ecosystem possible.

Nahant Marsh will be handing out milkweed and teaching you how to create a habitat for monarchs and other pollinators in your own backyard

There will also be a bake sale, fun giveaways, the Nahant Bug BioBlitz, partner education activities from Quad City Botanical Center and the Putnam Museum, event merch with specially designed Monarch & Friends merchandise to commemorate the 11th annual celebration, and more!
