Maquoketa Caves Now Open For Fall & It’s Lit
Maquoketa Caves State Park is ready to shine and open for fall visitors. You might remember we told you Maquoketa Caves would be closed all summer for upgrades.
Those upgrades included new LED lighting in caves, a new footbridge on the woodland trail, new boardwalks on all trails, upgraded electrical campsites, cleaned sediment from Dancehall Cave — which probably is the park’s most popular attraction and converting non-electrical campsites to electrical. There’s also a new check-in station for campers and a new roof, ceiling and lighting on the shower building.
Dancehall is 1,100 feet long and is the most popular because visitors can walk upright and, thanks to the lighting, taking photos will be better too.
Take the short drive to Maquoketa and explore the 111-acres of nature and wildlife. The park will be open until October, and then it will close for winter.
