State and local fairs in the our two state region and around the Quad Cites have been canceling for the most part.

Mississippi Valley Fair organizers have maintained the fair will go on....until now.

According to a QC Times.com article, fair organizers will meet with local health experts on Monday to see if the fair can go on. Right now it seems as though concerts will be canceled. The fair is scheduled for Aug. 4-9.

The QC Times interviewed fair director, Shawn Loter. Here's what Loter said.

The health department cannot say 'no' to the fair, but if it does not approve the plan, fair officials would have to consider canceling because "our insurance says we pretty much have to follow recommendations," Loter said.

Hosting the grandstand shows prove the biggest challenge. If acts have to be cancelled, they would be re-signed for 2021, he said.

The article says Loter will meet with the Scott County Health Department on Monday when the decision will be made to go on with the fair, the concerts or whether to cancel all or part of the event. Acts scheduled for this year would be re-booked for 2021.

According to the QC Times, fair organizers say if the event is canceled Fun Card refunds will be made at the fair office or by mail.

We'll keep watching this story as it unfolds.
