One of my favorite Valentine's Day candies aside from chocolate is Sweethearts. It's a candy that takes me back to grade school. When everyone would give everyone else one of those valentine cards and some kind of sweet treat. I think over the years I got quite a few of these at school parties. This year no one's getting Sweethearts.

According to the Detroit Free Press the candy was made by the New England Confectionary Company (NECCO), which also made Mary Janes, Necco Wafers, and Clark Bars. The company had some financial problems and was sold twice last year. Spangler Candy bought the NECCO brands including Sweethearts. Sadly, Spangler did not have enough time to pump out Sweethearts for Valentine's Day this year.

The Detroit Free Press says Spangler is looking to relaunch Sweethearts for Valentine's Day 2020 so that's some good news. That's not to say you can't find them. Amazon has them available, but the cheapest I saw them for when I searched was $9. That's not cheap for chalky candy hearts that whisper sweet nothings through their classic sayings.
