Late last night, Rock Island-Milan School officials made the decision to cancel classes at the Rock Island Center for Math & Science Thursday, anticipating the extreme heat.

The school's officials made the announcement on Facebook and their website.

Due to the extreme heat advisory and lack of adequate air conditioning, the Rock Island Center for Math & Science will not have school tomorrow, Thursday, May 12. Remote learning will not be offered at this time. All before and after school programs are also canceled.

An update will be provided to families tomorrow about the status of school for Friday, May 13.

No other Rock Island or Quad City area schools have canceled their classes as of yet, but stay tuned in case of any changes.

Thursday's forecast calls for a hot and sunny day, with a high of 94 degrees, low of 69. The Quad Cities is in a heat advisory from 11am to 9pm. Conditions will be ripe for heat illness, so stay hydrated and stay cool.

Friday is when our heat streak finally breaks, with a high of 90 degrees and some scattered rain or thunderstorms. Most of the rain is expected to come in the afternoon and evening.
