Oscar Mayer’s Wienie 500 Returns to Indianapolis Motor Speedway
The "meatiest race in motorsports" is returning to the track. Oscar Mayer has announced that the second annual Wienie 500 will take place at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Friday, May 22, just before the 110th Indianapolis 500.
A Massive Spectacle on Wheels
Last year’s inaugural event was a massive success, helping Oscar Mayer sell nearly 500,000 more wieners. The race attracted 85,000 fans to the stands and another 8 million viewers via livestream. This year, the event will feature a fleet of six Wienermobiles competing for the "Top Dog" title, supported by a new nationwide live broadcast.
New Competitors and Fan Voting
While regional favorites like the Chi Dog and defending champion Slaw Dog return, one spot is currently vacant. The Sonoran Dog was relegated after a poor performance last year. Now, fans can visit @Wienermobile on Instagram to vote for a new regional contender or give the Sonoran Dog a second chance.
“The response to the first Wienie 500 was overwhelming, and we heard the fans loud and clear that they were hungry for more,” said Kelsey Rice, brand communications director at Oscar Mayer. “This year, we're supercharging the experience, delivering an even bigger, bolder and more unforgettable event that puts the fans at the forefront.”
Beloved Traditions Return
Fans can expect the return of Hotdogger racing suits, the "Wiener Song" anthem, and a mustard spray at the "wieners circle" podium.
“With amplified engagement, intensified rivalries and more surprises in store, we're giving the people what they want – an unparalleled live experience that will leave them craving more,” Rice added.
