The Big Ten is getting set to kick off their college football season this coming weekend, and already one of it's coaches will have to sit out the game due to COVID-19. That coach is Purdue head coach Jeff Brohm. The Boilermakers host the Iowa Hawkeyes on Saturday.

The Cedar Rapids Gazette reports that Brohm began to feel tired and exhausted last week. Then, the chills, body aches, and chest congestion kicked in. Brohm went in for a COVID-19 and tested positive the next day. That means he'll miss the season and home opener against Iowa at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Brohm is continuing to help the team prepare for the game remotely. His brother, Brian Brohm, has taken over head coaching duties for the Iowa game.

According to the Gazette, Brohm is the eighth FBS head coach to contract COVID-19, joining Kansas' Les Miles, Florida State's Mike Norvell, Toledo's Jason Candle, Arkansas State's Blake Anderson, UCLA's Chip Kelly, and Arizona's Kevin Sumlin. Alabama head coach Nick Saban had an initial positive rapid test last week. But three follow up tests turned up negative, so Saban was allowed to coach against Georgia last weekend.

The Big Ten rules call for any player that tests positive for COVID-19 must be out of action for 21 days. For coaches, the league will follow CDC guidelines of 10 days. So far, Saturday's game is not being canceled as no Purdue players have tested positive for the virus.
