Families looking for a fun and educational way to wrap up the summer can head to Milan this weekend for the annual Quad City Fire Wire Touch A Truck event.

The free community event takes place on Sunday, August 2, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Camden Centre, 2701 1st St. E. in Milan, Illinois. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore dozens of emergency and specialty vehicles while meeting the first responders who operate them.

Event Attractions

One of the biggest attractions will be two medical helicopters landing throughout the day. MedForce Air Medical is scheduled to be on-site from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m., followed by AirCare from 2:15 p.m. to 4 p.m. Guests will be able to get an up-close look at the aircraft and talk with the flight crews.

The event will also feature live fire extinguisher demonstrations where firefighters will teach attendees how to properly use a fire extinguisher during an emergency.

Kids can test their firefighting skills in the Junior Firefighter Challenge, giving them the chance to handle a real fire hose and spray water at a simulated burning house.

Another popular attraction is the 1-800-BOARD-UP Smoke Trailer, where participants can safely experience what it's is like to navigate through a smoke-filled environment while learning important fire safety tips.

To close out the afternoon, organizers are inviting everyone to join the End-of-Summer Water Battle beginning at 4 p.m. Children are encouraged to bring their own water guns for a friendly showdown against local firefighters. Water balloons will also be available as everyone celebrates the final days before school starts.

In addition to the special activities, guests can climb aboard and explore a wide variety of vehicles, including fire trucks, police vehicles, ambulances, school buses, construction equipment, helicopters, and more.

Free Admission

Admission is free, making it an affordable outing for families across the Quad Cities. Organizers are also teasing a major announcement during the event regarding next year's Touch A Truck, encouraging attendees to stay tuned for what's coming in 2027.
