Rob Takes the Facebook All-Time Top Ten Album Challenge Day 4

Day four of my all time top ten album challenge: "Different Light" The Bangles

I was debating whether or not to include this on my list. However after listening to "Ladies and Gentlemen ... The Bangles", a recent compilation album of the Bangles songs before they became pop stars, I decided to include it. Over the years as the Bangles story has been written I tended to feel lukewarm about the album. It's the most polished release the group put out. Drummer Debbie Peterson didn't do much on the group's biggest hit "Walk Like and Egyptian" because the drums were all digital. And the production sanitized the band's sound to make it appeal to the jean jacket, pink bubble gum chewing, mall consumer of the 80's.

As I listened to "Ladies and Gentlemen ... The Bangles" I wanted to listen to another album by the band. Surprisingly as I tried to remember the song lists of the albums, this is the one I wanted to give a listen, and I wasn't disappointed by it. "Different Light" contains "Walk Like an Egyptian", "Manic Monday", "If She Knew What She Wants" and "Walking Down Your Street". All hits for the group. I also really like their cover of Big Star's "September Gurls" along with the album's title track and "Return Post". It's a good pop record, even if it is the most polished of the group.
