Day two of my ten all-time favorite albums: Fleetwood Mac "Tango In The Night".

Many would probably pick "Rumors" as one of their top ten all-time favorites. They'd be right to do so. The story behind that album is utterly amazing. That said, my introduction to many classic artists came through their work in the 1980's. It was a different time. Music genres weren't as sliced up. Music was more inter-generational. Artists like Bruce Springsteen, Fleetwood Mac, Genesis, Chicago, Foreigner, Journey. There wasn't an idea that they were too old to be played on Top 40 radio. So radio played them. MTV put the videos on the air and some artists had success.

According to Wikipedia "Tango In The Night" had four successful singles, two of which reached top 10 on the Billboard charts. The album itself was the groups second biggest selling album where it peaked at number seven.

I remember buying "Tango In The Night" at Wind Records, my local record store, on a cool, misty, fall evening. What stands out for me about that night was running into my friend Bill (the guy who challenged me to do this) outside the store. I didn't know Bill very well at that point, but we would become very good friends after that. So whenever I play "Tango In The Night" it reminds me of that evening and our friendship.

As for the music there's something about "Seven Wonders" and "Big Love" that's hypnotic. I can listen to those songs over and over and over. In many ways "Tango In The Night" isn't so much Fleetwood Mac as Lindsey Buckingham channeling the essence of Fleetwood Mac. And you can't go wrong with that.
