Heat Precautions in Place for Savannah Bananas Games in Iowa City
If you're one of the thousands of fans heading to Iowa City for the Savannah Bananas this Friday or Saturday, be ready for some hot weather. With temperatures expected to climb into the 90s both days, the University of Iowa is putting several heat safety measures in place to help everyone stay cool.
Both games are scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.

Bring Your Own Water
To help fans stay hydrated, the university will allow each person to bring one sealed bottle of water of any size into the stadium. Guests may also bring an empty refillable water bottle to fill once inside.
Cooling Areas and Hydration Stations
A hydration station will be available at the Lot 43 Plaza, where fans can also find an air-conditioned first aid tent if they need a break from the heat.
Another cooling station and rest area will be set up in the southeast corner of the stadium for anyone needing to cool down during the event.
Extra Medical Staff On Site
The university is also increasing medical support for the weekend. Johnson County Ambulance Service will have two utility vehicles stationed around the plaza and parking lots before the games begin, and physicians and nurses will be on site to assist anyone experiencing heat-related illnesses or other medical issues.
Tips to Beat the Heat
University officials encourage fans to start hydrating before arriving at the stadium by drinking plenty of water and other non-alcoholic, non-caffeinated beverages. They also recommend wearing lightweight, loose-fitting clothing, applying sunscreen, and bringing sunglasses to help stay comfortable throughout the evening.
