Send Girl Scout Cookies to Iowa and Illinois Heroes
Girl Scout Cookie season is officially winding down, but before you put the last box in the freezer to savor later, consider sending a few boxes to Iowa and Illinois heroes.
Girl Scouts collect donations from customers to give cookies to military members, essential workers, and school staff. With a few weeks left in the 2021 cookie season, special weekends will impact the following groups in the eastern Iowa and western Illinois region:
- March 12-14: cookies for the military
- March 19-21: cookies for essential workers
- March 26-28: cookies for school staff
Girl Scouts are also collecting cookie donations online through www.girlscoutcookies.org. When you go to the Girl Scout site, put in your zip code, and a troop will generate a seller located closest to them. Then, click on the troop and select the number of cookies to donate.
Cookies can also be purchased and shipped to customers' homes in the same transaction. Throughout March, shipping on Digital Cookie orders is half off.
How to Buy and Donate Girl Scout Cookies
Locally, Girl Scout Cookie season runs until March 28, 2021. Consumers can support Girl Scouts by purchasing cookies in a few different ways:
Girl Scouts are hosting safe and socially-distant Cookie Booths at local businesses. Look for drive-thru-style cookie booths across the region. Visit www.girlscoutcookies.org to find an upcoming cookie booth.
- Enter your zip code into the Girl Scout Cookie Finder at www.girlscoutcookies.org to purchase from a local Girl Scout troop online for shipment to your door or to donate cookies to first responders and local causes.
Traditional cookie flavors are $5/package, and the specialty gluten-free Toffee-tastic® cookies are $6/package.
Last year Girl Scouts of Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois council donated 50,000 packages of cookies across the council. According to a council news release, excess inventory turned into a way to thank the people keeping our communities safe. Cookies were donated to hospitals, nursing homes, police and fire stations, and military organizations throughout the region.
