You know when you drive across Iowa, and there are those boards that have some cheesy saying on them, like "Arrive alive, don't drive high" or "Eddie says don't Tweet & drive. The Twitter's full"? Well, if you ever feel like you could do them one better, you apparently can send in your ideas.

The program from Iowa Department of Transportation, known as "Roadside Chat" runs the special messages over major highways and interstates from 12:01am to 11:59pm, every Friday. The year-to-date roadway fatality count for Iowa, as well as the "fun" message are displayed.

It's one of those things where you're driving along, see the message, and chuckle to yourself, but then the serious side of "89 traffic deaths this year," pops up and you go from happy and chuckling to:

“The program is meant to drive awareness of the number of fatalities that occur on Iowa’s roadways and help start conversations around the impact we all can have by changing our driving behavior," Steve Gent, director of the Iowa DOT’s Bureau of Traffic and Safety said.

“We believe that working with the public to create messages gets them more engaged in thinking and talking with others about how to increase safety on our roads, which is really the ultimate goal of this program. There’s also a sense of pride to be able to point to a message that runs on a Friday and tell your friends and family that you were the one that came up with that.”

So, how do you submit a goofy idea?

Head over to the Iowa Department of Transportation website, where you'll find a form that looks like the one below. It'll be on the "Roadside Chat" webpage.
