If you like a juicy tomato in your BLT be prepared to pay more.

We could see a big price hike in the produce aisle in the coming months. The cost of tomatoes imported from Mexico is expected to increase after a new 17.5 percent tariff imposed this week according to a KTIV.com story.

The termination of a 22-year agreement between U.S. and Mexican growers  could lead to shortages and price hikes.We could see increases of up to 85 percent on tomatoes between now and this winter.

Tomatoes from Mexico account for more than 50 percent of the U.S. market.

The Commerce Department says it is continuing to negotiate to come up with a solution.

In the meantime, you may want to consider slapping an onion on that sandwich instead.
