There Have Been a Ton of Political Robocalls Made to Iowans
If you've been getting more robocalls than you usually do, you're definitely not alone! According to a new article from the Cedar Rapids Gazette, "Iowa is among the six states receiving the most political robocalls this campaign season."
This election season is pretty intense, especially for voters here in Iowa. In addition to the presidential race, there's also an open U.S. Senate seat and four spots in the House of Representatives to be filled. That means you're likely seeing and hearing even more political advertisements than usual, and you might be getting a few more political phone calls on your landline phone.
The article says that political phone calls are popular because they are an easy and cheap way to reach voters, especially unregistered ones (there are around 2.2 million here in Iowa). They can be used to give information about a candidate or serve as a reminder to turn in a ballot. The Gazette reports that Iowans received nearly three-and-a-half million political robocalls over a nine-week period this fall, with 1.8 million made in just one four-week period. The only states to beat us in political robocalls were North Carolina, Montana, Maine, Wisconsin, and Ohio.
I don't have a landline phone, so calls haven't been an issue for me. What has been an issue is the constant onslaught of text messages. My phone number still has a Michigan area code, so I've been receiving texts from both Michigan AND Iowa. I'm not going to lie, it's been pretty annoying. I've requested to be taken off of so many text lists these past few weeks, but they seem to be endless. Oh, and don't even get me started on the political mail. I just keep telling myself it will all be over soon...
